RoMac Builder's Spotlight: Stentiford Construction

Updated: Nov 6

From Homes to Businesses: A Father-Son Legacy in Marion

Nestled within the aviation community of Jumboair in Ocala, RoMac Media recently visited one of Stentiford Construction’s custom homes. Sitting down with founder and president Paul Stentiford and his son, Vice President Tyler Stentiford, we had the chance to learn more about their journey, passion for construction, and the strong foundation of their family-run business. Together, Paul and Tyler bring a unique mix of experience and vision to each project, continuing to evolve the Stentiford legacy throughout Marion County.

“I’m Paul Stentiford, the owner and founder of Stentiford Construction,” Paul began, introducing himself with a quiet pride. The Stentiford story began “decades ago,” as Paul recalls, rooted in craftsmanship and a love of building he inherited from his father back in England. “He worked in construction since he was a young man, learning the grain of wood, literally,” Paul shared. Inspired by this foundation, Paul made his own way in the industry, earning a general contractor’s license in 1985 before starting his own company 21 years ago.

Tyler joined his father about seven years ago, initially as an assistant project manager. Today, he plays a critical role in the company's internal operations and residential projects, working closely with clients to bring their visions to life. “A home is by far the most personal thing you’ll ever build. It’s not a strip center or a retail space—it’s something they’re going to live in every day,” Tyler explained. “Helping clients make the right design choices while building that is definitely a rewarding experience.”

The Stentifords’ portfolio is broad, spanning commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Paul, a self-proclaimed commercial project enthusiast, says he loves the “cut-and-dry” nature of these builds, and the commercial division has taken on high-profile projects such as Gold’s Gym, Kimley-Horn, the historic Ma Barker House, and the Ocala Skate Park. At the same time, the company has developed a thriving residential division under Tyler’s guidance. Tyler’s ability to “see things of what they need to be” makes him invaluable in creating custom homes that clients love. "Tyler has that gift," Paul says proudly. "He can visualize the colors, the flooring, the fixtures—everything, and bring it all together with the owners."

Their recent project, a beautiful 5,850-square-foot home completed in a remarkable six months, is a testament to their skill and dedication. “We wanted to have it in the parade and to make that happen, we had to achieve a seriously tight deadline,” Paul said. The results were impressive: the home won both an outstanding design-build award and the People's Choice, first place. “We’re really pleased with the results,” Tyler added.

As we wrapped up our conversation, Tyler shared a guiding principle from his father: “Three aspects he always wants to see delivered on a project: maintaining the schedule, the budget, and, while accomplishing those two things, never compromising the quality.” This focus on time, budget, and excellence remains the core of Stentiford Construction, as they continue building not just structures, but lasting relationships with each project.

Stentiford Construction’s legacy, built by a father and son with a shared love for the craft, is one that’s truly shaped Marion County. Whether it's a family home or a commercial space, they bring the same dedication to every job, creating spaces that serve as the heart of their clients’ lives and businesses.
